REWRITE THE TRAGIC END OF ROMEO AND JULIET

Juliet is asleep in the tomb because she wanted other people to believe that she was dead in order to escape from Verona.

In the meantime Romeo returns from Mantova, and having heard of Juliet’s death he manages to enter Juliet’s tomb to give her a last goodbye.

ROMEO

Oh Juliet, dear Juliet, why did you do this to yourself?

Fate was not in our favour and this is how it ended…

Romeo caresses her face while looking at her lovingly.

ROMEO

Destiny was against us, but I told you that I would have done anything to be with you.

Romeo drinks the poison till the last drop and dies.

After a while Juliet wakes up and she finds Romeo dead beside her.

Juliet panics and tries to find a way to resurrect him.

At first she tries to shake him, but seeing that doesn’t work she starts talking to him.

JULIET

Oh Romeo, dear Romeo, we did everything we could do to end up together, but it didn’t matter because fate is not on our side.

I never gave up and I won’t do it now.

This is going to be my last kiss, hoping that we will meet in another lifetime.

Juliet kisses him softly and, while she is weeping, Romeo suddenly wakes up.

ROMEO

Are we both dead? Are we in heaven?

JULIET

No, I just kissed you and you woke up.

Romeo, taken by surprise and joy, embraces Juliet and kisses her deeply.

ROMEO

Let’s run away from this city and this people who don’t support us and our relationship.

JULIET

Let’s do that, I will always follow you.

Romeo and Juliet leave the scene while holding hands and fade away at dawn.
